Mindfulness practices enhance a therapist’s ability to attend more closely to the client and cultivates qualities including empathy, compassion, and unconditional positive regard that are among the common factors shown to strengthen the therapeutic relationship and outcome. Using aikido and an aikido-based approach, called Peace Practices, David Lukoff, Ph.D. and Brandon Williamscraig, Ph.D. will offer mindfulness-in-conflict practices that can be applied by psychotherapists both with clients and for self-care. In this workshop we will gently introduce aikido techniques in order to explore practices that develop therapeutic presence, staying centered when challenged by clients, and blending empathically with clients, as well as ways to practice “conflict done well” over time to become more effective in facilitating conflict resolution.

    In this workshop, you will:
    – Gain an experiential understanding of mind-body-spirit techniques that you can use with clients.
    – Increase your ability to ”read” bodies including social/emotional issues embodied in our clients.
    – Learn techniques for rebalancing yourself physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
    – Use teachable phrases in conflictful situations that facilitate conflict resolution

Spiritual Competency Resource Center (SCRC) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education activities. SCRC maintains responsibility for this program and its content. For questions concerning CE, please contact Dr. David Lukoff (707) 763 3576 or visit
